SEO Baseline Keyword Tracking
Baseline tracking and keyword data directions and options
—Please read— before you begin (yes, really. Please read this!)
On this page, you’ll find links to get started with figuring out what your “baseline stats” are. Please keep in mind that this is ONLY the beginning and you are simply seeing what your website comes up for at this very moment, at the beginning of SEO School.
Once you have this data, I want you to export these keywords/search terms and save them in your handy dandy SEO folder so that you can refer to them down the line.
There are TWO options here: the “free version” and the “paid version”. Please note that if you choose the paid version, the software costs $49/mo or $29/month if you pay for the full year upfront.
If you want to begin with the FREE option first and then invest in the PAID option at the end of SEO School, when you’re really starting to dive into the stats component, great. If you never want to get the paid version, also OKAY. The limit that exists is that you won’t know where you specifically rank locally without this software. The free data will give you an idea, but it isn’t accurate for local data, it is simply an estimate" of your success and search appearance.
OPTION #1: THE FREE WAY
Google Search Console queries section
Utilize the software linked below — directions: type in your domain and you will be given a list of search terms that your website comes up for and what position you are. THIS IS NOT LOCAL DATA. THIS IS FOR THE WHOLE UNITED STATES/CANADA. What this means: these are general keywords your website is associated with. For online businesses, this can work if you just want to see where you’re at. For local businesses, you can’t use this data and say “I’m not ranking for my service in my town”, because that is NOT what this is showing. To see that, you need to pay for software, which is below.
Start by typing in your domain below and clicking “find keywords”. You’ll be taken to an external site where you can then see what your domain is “known for” within the US/Canada. Please make sure you choose your country in the top bar where it says “anywhere”. You can switch it to US or Canada. If you are would rather just leave it to “anywhere”, that is also alright.
OPTION #2: THE PAID WAY (BEST FOR ACCURATE LOCAL DATA)
Utilize the software linked below — directions: type in your domain and you will be given a list of search terms that your website comes up for and what position you are. THIS IS NOT LOCAL DATA. THIS IS FOR THE WHOLE UNITED STATES/CANADA. What this means: these are general keywords your website is associated with. For online businesses, this can work if you just want to see where you’re at. Please watch the video tutorial on this to make sure you set it up correctly, thank you!
Start by typing in your domain below and clicking “start tacking”. You’ll be taken to an external site where you can then input your keywords. While you may not have all of your keywords solidified, I want you to start with your COMMERCIAL keywords or what people pay you for. Feel free to add your town name or “near me” after the keyword as well.
